Additional childcare allowance reintroduced

From 9 November onwards, pupils from grades I to III will also be taught remotely. Therefore, the government has decided to reintroduce the additional childcare allowance.

The significant increase in the number of cases of Covid-19 in Poland in recent weeks has led the government to decide to extend remote learning to the youngest schoolchildren from Monday 9 November. However, nurseries and kindergartens will continue to operate.

As a result of the new regulations, the additional childcare allowance returns and will be available for the period from 9 November to 29 November 2020.

The additional childcare allowance – who is entitled to it?

The additional childcare allowance will be granted under the previously applicable rules, that is:

• to the parents of children under 8 years of age if their school or other institution has been closed,
• to the carers of disabled children:

– of up to 16 years old who have a disability certificate,

– of up to 18 years of age who have a degree of severe or moderate disability,

– of up to 24 years of age, who have a certificate of need for special education,

• to the parents or carers of adult persons with disabilities who are released from work because of the need to care for such a person.

The childcare allowance is granted if:

• the school, kindergarten, nursery or children’s club attended by a child or adult with disabilities is closed because of COVID-19
• the above-mentioned facilities cannot provide care due to a temporary reduction of their activity in relation to the coronavirus
• the above-mentioned facilities are open only to a limited extent
