Additional childcare allowance until 9 January 2022

Remote learning returns to schools from 20 December 2021 to 9 January 2022 and with it the additional childcare allowance paid when caring for a child or a disabled person.

The additional childcare allowance is introduced for the time of remote learning in primary and secondary schools and is available to parents or carers of children, including children and people with disabilities, aged:

  • up to the age of 8
  • up to the age of 16, who have a disability certificate,
  • up to the age of 18, who have a statement of significant or moderate disability
  • up to the age of 24, who have a statement on the need for special education.

The additional childcare allowance of 80 per cent of remuneration may be claimed by one parent if the other parent, nanny or day-care provider cannot provide care for the child at that time (also in a situation of limited operation of facilities attended by the child). Moreover, the allowance is not included in the limit of days of childcare allowance per calendar year granted under general rules.

In order to receive the additional childcare allowance, one must submit a statement on exercising personal care over a child or a disabled person in connection with the introduction of remote learning at school (persons employed on the basis of employment contracts and mandate contracts submit the statement to their payer of contributions, and persons conducting non-agricultural business activity or persons cooperating with persons conducting such activity submit the statement directly to ZUS, for example, using the ZUS PUE system).
